In its opening game of the season, OVS volleyball handily defeated Pilgrim School on Tuesday in three straight sets.
Team captain Donahi Soriano, who plays mainly as an outside hitter, was part of a dominant offensive performance. Her penetrating serves and hits played a large part in bringing home Tuesday’s win. Also hitting well was junior Annie Heinemann, who holds a strong position as one of the more prominent servers on the team.
On the defensive side, junior Allyanna Wescott played as liberro, or in other words center receiver. In Tuesday’s game Allyana played strongly, receiving the majority of the free balls that came over the net from the other team. Junior Clara Ferrer Ferreira also filled in as a sub at liberro, contributing to a number of the points.
Other strong performances came from sophomores Rory Liu and Chloe Ronning, and junior Elizabeth Ramsay.
“This was a strong way to start off the year and I’m super excited to see how we improve,” Elizabeth said.
Next up for OVS volleyball is an away game at Summit View School at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
