As OVS welcomes the students back to the second semester after a three-week break, the winter sports season has jumped back into full swing. All four winter teams, boys and girls soccer as well as boys and girls Basketball, competed in contests and will continue to play into the weekend.
On Wednesday, the boys teams played against Besant Hill. In the afternoon, the boys soccer had a 4-0 sweep with an impressive showing from all the players, with two goals from freshman Hyun Un Choi and first season goals from junior Gabe Weisiger and freshman Logan Wallace.
The boys will travel to Oak Grove School to compete in their next match on Wednesday, January 22.
In the evening, boys basketball was hosted by Besant Hill and took a 47-39 triumph. Freshman Ethan Chen once again had an impressive performance as he was the leading scorer. Senior Joshua Hsu and junior Adrian Ortiz showed great performances as well with strong defense and offensive assists.
On Thursday afternoon, the girls soccer team played against Oak Grove and won 5-0. Senior Margo Eramova made a hat trick, scoring three goals. Junior Zela Henderson also scored a goal as well as a first season goal from senior Megan Manion. The girls had a great performance and are excited about their first win.
On Thursday night, the girls basketball team played against Besant Hill. Unfortunately, the girls lost by only one point but displayed great heart and determination throughout the entirety of the game. With strong and aggressive defense from senior Stephany Nostrant and sophomore Eva Gueguen, the girls were able to hold Besant Hill of the majority of the game.
The boys and girls basketball teams will play against Dunn on Saturday, January 18th. Next week, the winter sports season will continue its momentum with all teams playing in multiple contests.
