A group of twelve students traveled to the Ventura County Government Center to participate in a three-hour training session to prepare to volunteer at the polls in the November 6 midterm elections.
Every year, OVS participates in National Banned Books Week, calling attention to efforts to end censorship of books deemed too controversial. This year, OVS students were asked to write letters to support their favorite banned authors.
Recently, there has been an outbreak of alternative nicotine use in teenage culture and at OVS due to the popularity of vapes and Juuls. In a time when nicotine is so readily available and heavily marketed towards teens, the school now needs to alter how they handle nicotine-based offenses.
