The OVS boys baseball team on Tuesday racked up its 12th win of the year, while simultaneously earning its second league title in as many years.
The baseball team will join the boys volleyball team in this year’s CIF spring season playoffs.
For baseball, this is the team’s fourth playoff appearance in the past five years (the one year they missed was due to the canceled 2020 season because of Covid-19). With their most recent victory over Gorman Learning Center the Spuds moved to 5-0 in league play claiming the Omega League championship title.
OVS outscored its league opponents 84 – 15 in the five games played this season.
“I am extremely proud of this team,” said senior captain Ryan Farrell. “We worked hard all year and everyone bought into the program. This league title is rewarding as much as it was earned.”
For boys volleyball this is its first-ever CIF playoff appearance.
The Spuds went 4-4 in the program’s first year back in since the 2009 season. The team, which consists of juniors and underclassmen, as led by team captain Eugene Fisher, who pushed for the return of boys volleyball to the Upper Campus from the start of the school year.
“This feat demonstrates how hard everyone worked,” said Eugene. “No one had played competitive volleyball until this year, and to reach CIF it’s truly an unbelievable feeling.”
The boys volleyball team will travel to Pomona on Thursday April 28 to face off against Garey High School.
Baseball has two more regular season games prior to its first round playoff match-up on May 6. The location and opponent is still to be determined.
