The Ojai Valley Schools boys’ and girls’ soccer teams had their first games on Tuesday, with both teams earning 2-2 ties while demonstrating amazing sportsmanship and energy on the field.
Senior Jay Galgano scored the OVS boys’ soccer team’s first goal, with an own goal, leading to the second.
Jay says that the team plays very well and that the team has a promising season to look forward to.
“Communication is something that we need to work on,” Jay said. “I think we get too focused on ourselves instead of playing as a team and passing.”
Senior Kay Johnson, one of the girls’ soccer team captains, is proud of what the team accomplished, saying that the players showed amazing energy and drive on the field.
One of the girls who stood out to her is Rumi Way, who had an assist in the second half and had great ball control, never giving up throughout the game.
“I was really proud to see all that we have practiced being applied to the game and the energy that was shown throughout the game by everyone, and how even when we got shot on, we never gave up and kept going,” Kay said.
Both teams will return to action on Dec. 4. The girls will host a home game against Rio Mesa High while the boys will travel to Camarillo to take on Beacon Hill. Both games are scheduled for 3 p.m.
