Playoff basketball has begun for the Spuds!
On Wednesday, the OVS boys basketball team hosted Shandon High School for a wild card round playoff matchup. With a packed gym filled with support from family, teachers, administrators, and students from both campuses the Spuds felt confident heading into tip-off.
“Having a crowd there gave everybody on the team confidence,” said senior forward Logan Daily. “When we made a good play not only did it reward the team but it rewarded the crowd.”
The Spuds came out in a flurry, starting the game off with a 15-0 run.
Junior guard Ethan Chen led the Spuds in scoring during the first half with 17 points followed by freshman guard Joey Edelson who had 11 points and multiple steals. The Spuds finished with 45 first half points, holding Shandon to 18.
“Joey stepped up big for us early on in the game,” Logan added. “He helped to set the tone for the game.”
In the second half the Spuds stayed red hot, posting a 30 point half. With the OVS faithful staying energetic throughout the contest the Spuds kept rolling with multiple baskets from sophomore center Sullivan Rothwell and senior forward Nic Cilia.
The Spuds would rout Shandon in a 75-39 victory.
“After Wednesday night’s victory we’ve built up a lot of confidence heading into Friday’s game,” said junior guard Ethan Chen.
The Spuds will travel to Fontana on Friday where they’ll face off against the #1 ranked Fontana Steelers.
