OVS boys soccer remained undefeated in Omega League play, winning 6-4 on Monday against Newbury Park Adventist Academy.
Junior Ben Manning put forward an amazing defensive performance, providing support and giving helpful feedback to the rest of the team.
“After a tough start to the game we rallied and came back to show that we were the better team, we are proud to go into the break undefeated,” Ben said.
Senior Hyunung Choi scored two goals, junior Maximilian Berninger scored one, and sophomore Jesse Starkman made the best goal of the game with a volley into the top corner — it also happened to be his first-ever goal! Seniors Logan Wallace and Dongkeon Kim also put in one goal each.
“It was a tough field to play on after the rain but our team pushed through and out together a really good team performance that showed what we are really all about and what we hope to do this season,” said senior Eugene Fisher, expressing confidence in the team’s progress.
The boys are not scheduled to play again after the holiday break when they will travel to Gorman Learning on a Jan. 10 for an afternoon game.
OVS Soccer Dec. 1 Versus Westmark School
OVS boys soccer started out strong this season winning 7-2 against Westmark School in its first league and home game of the season.
Junior Maximilian Berninger made four goals while senior Hyunung Choi added the other three.
The game was physical and forceful on both sides, but the aggression and persistence of OVS players dominated the day.
“It was a good team performance and it’s nice to start the season off with a big win like that and hopefully we can work to build off of this and defend our league title,” senior Eugene Fisher said.
Team captains Logan Wallace and Hyunung Choi practiced leadership throughout the game, playing as center midfield and striker. They both showcased their skill and fierceness during the games.
Junior Eli Roston, who plays at left back, was especially pleased with the level of teamwork on Wednesday.
“We all communicate when we are on the field and we are always helping each other if we lose the ball or someone is in the wrong position,” Eli said.
OVS boys next play on Monday, Dec. 5, at Newbury Park Adventist Academy.
