The Ojai Valley School track team produced five individual Omega League champions — and two relay championship teams — at its league final last week.
On the boys side, seniors turned in top performances, with Ben Manning taking first place in the 400 meter dash, Bohdan Cherkai winning the 200 meter dash and Eli Roston taking first in the 3,200 meter run.
Ben and Eli joined with senior Soren Saye and sophomore Kai Ishikawa to take the top prize in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
On the girls side, it was juniors who had the top performances, as Adele Erk took first place in the 1600 meter run while Rory Liu earned first in the 400 meter dash. The 4 x 100 meter relay team composed of Rory, senior Annie Heinemann, sophomore Mieke Wells and freshman Laura Bell also took the league championship crown.
While several runners qualified to take part in the CIF preliminary meet, scheduling conflicts will prevent that from happening, meaning the 2024 season has come to an end.
“Our runners saved their best for last, and they showed some real grit in gutting out individual victories against tough competition,” OVS track coach Fred Alvarez said. “Add to that, lots of our runners set personal bests at the league final, and really that is what we aim for all season long.”
