In the knitting H-block proctored by Spanish teacher, Ms. Wachter, students can unwind, use their creativity, and connect with their peers.
After attending a day of difficult classes, the knitters are provided tranquility while constructing their unique pieces. In this elective, the participants typically talk with their friends and debrief their day while being productive.
“It’s a fun time to decompress and talk to your friends while knitting” sophomore Chloe Guyer explained.
The students have produced many amazing projects such as scarves, bags, and more. There is a large variety of colors for them to choose from to express themselves. They are given the choice to either crochet or knit depending on which is easier for them.
There is no expectation for the participant’s skill level in class, making the class even more tension-free. People work at their own pace and students are brought together when teaching each other new skills.

Sophomore Valentina Edelson has been knitting since fourth grade and plans to use this H-block to heighten her knitting skills.
“It really gives me a nice time to relax and forget about school and it relieves my stress” Valentina explained “I feel like I’ve bonded with a lot of people and it’s just a really nice environment.”
Some students enhance their knitting experience by taking turns buying snacks for this period.
“We are always assigning who is on snack duty and ask and buy each other’s favorite snacks to make knitting more enjoyable,” Valentina said.
At an age where academic pressure is high, students are provided time in their day to relax. Without any devices or work coming in the way, students are able to be in the moment and grow closer to their peers.
