The OVS girl’s volleyball team has been listening to many different types of music on and off the court.
Most of the girls on the volleyball team usually put in headphones and listen to music that gets them excited before games or even during practice. Many players from the team listen to rap or pop music to pump them up for a game.
Sophomore JV volleyball player Jessi Ponce Sanchez has been on the team for two years now and is always seen laughing and having fun playing with her teammates.
One of Jessie’s favorite songs to get her pumped is “Barbie World (With Aqua)” by Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, and Aqua.
“It’s an energetic song,” she said.
In contrast, Jessi has also been listening to Ella Fitzgerald recently. Her favorite album is “The Complete Piano Duets,” and her favorite song is “Misty.”
“I like her jazzy beat,” she said when asked her favorite thing about Ella Fitzgerald’s music style.

Senior Varsity volleyball outside hitter Annie Heinemann has been playing volleyball for many years and is always extraordinary when she’s playing.
Annie’s favorite artists to get her ready to destroy on the court are Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and Sza. Some of her favorite songs by Doja Cat are “Paint The Town Red,” “Vegas,” and “Need to Know.”
“Honestly, all Doja Cat songs are a thumbs up in my opinion,” she said while listing her favorite Doja Cat songs.
Recently, Annie has been listening to Taylor Swift, Drake, and Olivia Rodrigo. Her favorite Drake Album is “Certified Lover Boy,” and her favorite songs on this album are “Fair Trade (with Travis Scott)” and “Girls Want Girls (with Lil Baby).”
This September, Olivia Rodrigo released her new album, “Guts,” and Annie has been enjoying it. Her favorite song on the album is “the grudge.”
“I don’t think it’s about having grudges against other people, it’s about going through things with other people that hurt you,” she said when talking about the meaning behind “the grudge.”

Varsity outside hitter Chloe Ronning is a huge fan of listening to music she can sing to before her games and during practice. Chloe’s favorite pregame songs are “Gangnam Style” by PSY, “Say So,” and “Woman” by Doja Cat.
“I like her ‘Planet Her’ album as well as ‘Hot Pink,’” she said.
Recently, Chloe has been listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar. Her favorite album is “good kid, m.A.A.d city” and her favorite song on the album is “Poetic Justice.”

Senior Varsity player, opposite, Donahi Soriano opposite is always found smiling and cheering up the team. Donahi usually listens to Katy Perry, Cardi B, and Rihanna. Some of her favorites are “Chained To The Rhythm” by Katy Perry and Marley, “S&M” by Rihanna, and “Super Bass” by Nicki Minaj.
Lately, Donahi has been listening to a lot of Bruno Mars.
“Recently, I’ve been on a Bruno Mars rampage,” she said enthusiastically.
Donahis favorite Bruno Mars album is “Unorthodox Jukebox.” Her favorite songs from this album are “Natalie” and “If I Knew.”

Freshman JV volleyball player River Hooks has very diverse music taste and enjoys almost anything that is played. Her favorite artists to play for volleyball are Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus. Some of her favorite songs are “Love Story” by Taylor Swift and “Party In the U.S.A.”
Lately, River has been listening to a lot of Lana Del Rey and Deftones.
“I like how there are different concepts. Not every album but it’s just a different tune that you like. It’s just really unique,” she said. “It’s just so different and it’s just like a whole different vibe.”
Some of Rivers’s favorite Lana Del Rey songs consist of “Let the Light In (feat. Father John Misty) and” “Art Deco.” She also likes “Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)” and “Rosemary” by Deftones.
