For the first time in school history, an OVS sports team advanced to the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
On Friday, May 6, the Spuds hosted Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy in a round one match of the 2022 CIF-SS baseball playoffs at Dok Smith Field.
OVS went 13-2 on the year including wins against tough non-league appoints such as Cate, Villanova, Thacher, Vasquez, Coast Union, and Foothill Tech.
That record propelled the team to a top four seed in this year’s CIF bracket, the only school in Ventura Country to earn a top four seed.
The Spuds went on a nine-game winning streak earlier this year, which was highlighted with four shut-outs and two no-hitters.
“I was ecstatic because it was the first ever CIF round one win since baseball started at OVS,” said senior captain Ryan Farrell. “I am so proud of our team this year!”
Like he has all year, Ryan led the way for the Spuds on the mound.
With an early lead and lockdown defense behind him, Ryan was able to coast through a majority of the ballgame by limiting baserunners and allowing weak contact off of CIMSA bats.
The Spuds’s bats continued to stay hot with juniors Dongkeon Kim and Ethan Chen and senior Alex Manning all picking up base hits.
“Most of us don’t realize we’re leaving a forever legacy for OVS sports,” Ethan said. “I’m incredibly honored to be apart of it!”
