In addition to the new buildings and teachers on the OVS campus this year, an especially unique class appeared on the curriculum known as Guitar Class.
Guitar class has been made to teach students of all skill levels how to play guitar.
First time guitarist Min was excited to talk about her guitar class experience, “It’s really difficult but I enjoy being able to learn independently in a class .”
Five students are enrolled in the class giving Mr. Boyd quite a bit of freedom when he is thinking of creative ways to teach, ““Because of the class size it’s loose, it’s more of you do what you want to do rather than what I want you to do.”
Mr. Boyd describes the class as five independent Guitar lessons, however sometimes they meet to work together on songs.
Another guitarist, Alex Alvarez commented on the course, “I think my favorite part of the class is working independently, as well as learning from someone who has experience in the field and actually succeeded at playing guitar.”
Alex hopes the course can stay rigorous and challenging throughout the year.
Mr. Boyd emphasized the importance of effort and progress, as those are what the class is graded on.
All of the guitarists hope to progress before family weekend as they intend to perform then, as well as Mr. Boyd hoping for them to perform independently.
The Guitar Class also hopes to perform out of the Garage Band room to the whole school on Fridays during lunch.
