The members of Ojai Valley School’s girls’ cross country team ran their hearts out Wednesday at the first Condor League meet of the season, held at Dunn School.
The team placed 2nd overall, missing fist place Midland by just 18 points.
Sophomore Jolene Fan placed 11th out of 32 in the 5k with Sophomore Avery Colborn and Senior Jenny Zhang close behind her. However, what is most remarkable about the girls’ performance on Wednesday is that almost all of them improved their previous best times by more than a minute. Senior Joy Campbell ran her second ever cross country meet running a 27:50 minute 5k.“Looking back at it, I’m definitely proud,” Joy said. “In the moment, it’s hard, but after it, I feel like I’m getting better.”
Once again, senior Jacob Tadlock led the boys’ team, running his season-best time of 19 minutes and 28 seconds. Seniors Peter Weckerle and Kase Skillern followed close behind, placing 25th and 37th out of the 68 runners.
The next cross country meet will be Oct. 11 at Laguna Blanca at 3 p.m.
