This past Wednesday afternoon, the OVS cross country team kicked off the fall season with their first meet at Cate School.
Senior runners Jacob Tadlock and Peter Weckerle set the bar for the boys, running three miles in 20 minutes 49 seconds and 22 minutes 3 seconds respectively. The other team members, Elliot Oechsner, Sebastian Wayman-Dalo, Ethan Gao, and Aaron Wolf finished strong.
On the girls’ side, sophomores Jolene Fan and Caspian Ellis led the way with times under 28 minutes, followed by Avery Colborn, Joy Campbell, and Sunny Chang, resulting in a fourth place finish for the girls’ team.
Even with it being the first meet of the season and having limited training time, the Spuds showed dedication, starting off the year with the cross country spirt well known to OVS.
“I’m incredibly proud of the effort of all our runners,” said OVS cross country coach Fred Alvarez. “Some of them ran the first cross country race of their lives. Some of them for the first time ran three miles without walking. They showed a lot of grit, and they’ve dedicated themselves to doing the hard work that is necessary to be long distance runners.”
OVS runs again next Wednesday, Oct. 5th, at Dunn School.
