OVS senior Connor Floyd joined 87 other high schools students from across Ventura County who were honored Tuesday at the 32nd Annual Star Scholar Awards.
Chosen by the OVS faculty as the most outstanding senior in the Class of 2015, Connor attended the scholarship banquet with his parents, Craig and Michele Floyd.
Hosted by the Ventura County Star and the Ventura County Community Foundation, the scholarship banquet honors those seniors who have demonstrated outstanding academics and who have excelled in their extracurricular activities.
“I’m sure it was tough for the faculty because there are a lot of great seniors here, and it’s an honor that they chose me,” said Connor, a baseball standout who has committed to attend Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa next year. “To be able to represent the school at the dinner was great.”
One of the seniors who was nominated, Guadalupe Melgarejo of Hueneme High School, was the recipient of the $5,000 Julius Gius Star Scholarship at the 32nd annual Star Scholar Awards.
All the other seniors, including Connor, earned a $500 scholarship for college.
Assistant Head of School Laurel Colborn said Connor was chosen by the faculty based on his academic, athletic, leadership and community service contributions.
“Connor is a great young man and a wonderful representative of the senior class for OVS,” said Mrs. Colborn, who is Connor’s advisor. “He is an outstanding senior with a passion for baseball and helping others.”
