Ojai Valley School sophomore Savannah Moler became an honorary member of the Ojai City Council last week in recognition for her 500-word essay on improving the city.
Savannah attended the Ethics and Leadership Conference in Ojai and learned about the 500-word “Mayor for the Day” essay. Though the “Mayor for the Day” contest happened during Spring Break, her essay was read by the Ojai Rotary Club and City Council and was deemed worthy of being read to the Ojai City Council on another day.
“Firstly, I believe in education as the bloom of a flower, the starting point to a beautiful and healthy Ojai,” Savannah read from her speech to the council.
Savannah believed that improving Libbey Park would be the key to improving Ojai as a whole.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to see what the Ojai City Council’s really like,” she said afterward. “To actually get to meet them and talk to them is a great honor too.”
