The Ojai Valley School boys’ baseball team took down a team of OVS alums by a score of 3-2 on Saturday, closing yet another chapter in the long-lived rivalry.
The alums jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and the game became a defensive battle.
The alums were able to hamper many scoring opportunities for the boys’ team, but were unable to hold off one final play.
Freshman Matt Gustafson delivered a walk-off bases loaded single with two outs in the 7th inning.
His clutch at-bat broke the 2-2 tie and won the game for the boys’ team.
Headmaster Carl Cooper reflected on the competition afterwards.
“What was lost on age was gained on courage,” Mr. Cooper said of the alumni team.
Coach Craig Floyd, who played with the alums, also reflected on the positive turnout for the game.
“The turnout was far more than I expected,” said Mr. Floyd.
“It was great to see alum ranging from the 80s through the current day,” he added. “We look forward to further alumni sporting events to bridge the years together.”
